The First Church of the Brethren is a fellowship of people who believe in Jesus and seek to live out that belief in a practical way each day. We certainly don't claim to be perfect, but we are striving to grow into the people that Jesus is calling us to be as individuals and as a congregation.
That calling leads us to Another Way of Living, which is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourself. We do that through worship, study, service to our community, and through fellowship with one another.
We are a group that likes to have fun. Whether its a church picnic with water balloons, the Neighborhood Fall-fest where we dunk the pastor, or other activities, we like to express the joy that Jesus has put in our hearts.
The congregation was founded in 1948 and still has a number of its founding members. Since that founding the congregation has grown from the "Little Chapel with a Big Heart" into the current community that still shares that big heart.
The congregation is part of the Church of the Brethren, a denomination started in 1708 in Schwarzenau Germany. The Church of the Brethren is noted for being a denomination that lives out its faith simply and practically. That simple yet practical faith is what started organizations like Heifer Project and gave the inspiration for the beginnings of the Peace Corp.
